Valery Botvinko, gnathologist

Graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry of the National Medical University named after O.O. Bogomolets in 2006. Internship at NMU named after O.O. Bogomoletsa, majoring in dentistry in 2008. She received a narrow specialization in orthopedic dentistry in 2010.

From 2009 to 2019, she worked at the Department of Orthopedic Stomatology of the National Medical University named after O.O. Bogomolets 2012-2019 - teacher. She was trained in the technique of electroneuromyography at the Institute of Neurosurgery A.P. Romodanov and work at the BioPack and Tekscan diagnostic complex (Milwaukee, USA). During my work at the department, scientific works and a textbook were published with my participation.

Practical training in medical institutions in Slovakia and Turkey. Since 2013, I have been studying the methods of osteopathy and applied kinesiology, cooperating with rehabilitation specialists. As a result of cooperation, she took part in interdisciplinary conferences and courses as a speaker. In 2019, she received training in the use of optical axiography. In 2021, she graduated from the graduate school of O.O. Bogomolets I am currently working in two private medical centers. The main area of activity is prosthetics, diagnosis and treatment of patients with TMJ and masticatory muscle dysfunctions.

We are used to seeing the dentist with a toothache or to improve the appearance of the smile as a priority. But with the growing awareness of patients about the holistic approach in medicine, as well as colleagues of related specialties about the impact of the pathology of the maxillofacial system on other organs and systems, we have appeals that would never have led to the dental office before. However, now we have to face the need to expand our horizons when examining and collecting the patient's history.

Dania Tamimi, BDS, DMSc

Dr. Dania Tamimi graduated with a dental degree from King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She trained at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and earned a doctorate of medical science (DMSc) and certificate of fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in 2005. She is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (ABOMR) and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow).

She is a reviewer and an Editorial Board member for Oral Surgery, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology (OOOO), as well as a reviewer for DMFR, Oral Radiology, Head and Neck, Angle Orthodontist and AJO-DO. She is the lead author on two textbooks: “Specialty Imaging: Dental Implants” (which has been translated to Portuguese) and “Specialty Imaging: Temporomandibular Joint and Sleep-Disordered Breathing” and a co-lead author on “Diagnostic Imaging, Oral and Maxillofacial” (translated to Spanish). She lectures nationally and internationally.

She currently runs her oral and maxillofacial radiology private practice in Orlando, Florida.

When we examine our patients, we need to adopt a more holistic method, including when we evaluate their radiographic information. In this lecture, Dr. Tamimi will demonstrate the correct methodology for evaluation of a large field of view CBCT for a complex patient. She will discuss the system of examining the craniofacial complex for cause and effect between the TMJs, airway and cervical spine, and she will show how to generate the appropriate cross sections required for this evaluation.

Dr John Flutter qualified as a dentist in 1971 and has over forty years of experience in dentofacial orthopaedics. He has lectured in over seventy countries worldwide on myofunctional orthodontics to dentists, orthodontists, sleep physicians, chiropractors, osteopaths, physiotherapists and dental assistants. He has visited dental and orthodontic offices in many of these countries consulting and advising on treatment delivery. Dr John has been in general practice for over fifty years and has owned general dental practices in England, Australia and Ukraine. He has worked in Singapore and done voluntary work in Vanuatu and Timor Leste. He now lives in London and divides his time between teaching worldwide and consulting in his clinic in Kyiv.

Orthognathic surgery significantly affects muscle function and, as a result of this effect, posture due to various mechanisms. The lecture highlights how the position of the jaw changes the dynamics of the masticatory muscles, which in turn affects the efficiency of chewing and speech. It is these changes that are crucial for overall muscle function and rehabilitation through neuromuscular adaptations to the new jaw position. Moreover, the orthognathic position of the jaws and facial structures can relieve stress on the neck and spine, helping to improve overall body posture and reduce discomfort. An understanding of the changes in jaw movement patterns after orthognathic surgery is necessary for an effective postoperative assessment of both occlusal and skeletal stability of the result.

We will discuss under what conditions orthognathic surgery will contribute to a significant improvement in muscle function and posture due to changes in the position of the jaw, complications of adaptation and long-term results.

Yuriy Vitaliyovych Klitynskyi
